Oil Pressure Reading Low

today when i was coming home from school, i looked at my oil pressure gauge and noticed it was making slightly less pressure than usual. i pulled off on the side of the highway and shut it off. when i restarted it, the gauge just barely even registered any oil pressure, and didn't change at all with rpms. it's about 36°F out, and extremely rainy. the truck runs the same as it did before, but i'm scared to drive it anywhere. it doesn't make any weird noises or run poorly. does this sound like a bad pressure gauge? i know sometimes they go bad during the cold months, but i just don't want my truck to end up being trashed. thanks

Ford's dummy gauges are known to be problematic. Looks like your truck is a 93-94, and I believe the dummy gauges started in the 80s.

The best thing to do is check the oil pressure with a manual tester. If you can verify it is good on the tester, then you know it's either the gauge or the sending unit. If you find it is the sending unit, try to go with a Motorcraft sending unit. The ones at Autozone/Advance/etc have high failure rates.

Ok you did not say that it your first post which is why I asked. I would get a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what the pressure is.

Yep, OilPressure "Gauge" is actually only an Off\On Indicator;
the OilPressure "Sensor" is actually only an Off\On Switch (set@ ~5psi), NOT a true Analog Sensor.
Varying position of fake Gauge Needle is near meaningless\comical; OilPressure is OK when Needle is above zero tic mark.

As said Oil Gauge is ON or OFF, but its needle position is related to Voltage in the system

So test system voltage at the battery terminals
12.3v to 12.8volt key OFF
13.5v to 14.8volt engine running

Under 13.5volt engine running means alternator is failing
