Paying off the Ranger

Well tomorrow I will be making my last payment on my 02 ranger. I bought it used about 5 years ago. I'll be so happy to finally have no more truck payments.

I traded a truck payment for a mortgage. Truck payment: $340 a month. Mortgage: $330 a month. Some how I feel like the mortgage was a better deal over all LOL

Thought what you should do now, is instead of enjoying your new found wealth, keep making a truck payment, only put that money into a savings account you own thats seperate from your regular savings. You can do this by simply writing yourself a check to that account. Its a good way to build a rainy day fund.

Most mortgages are much more than $330 a month, but it is interesting that some do pay as much or more for their vehicle as they do their mortgage. Granted it's not usually for 15 or 30 years.

I started out with a 60 month $219.60 payment plan on my Ranger. I am now down to only having to make another 11.5 payments. I think my balance is around $2,500 so this time next year I'll be payment free. I'm planning on keeping the truck another 5-7 years or so. It's in really nice condition so it should last. Only has 48,xxx miles on it.
