Performance coil pack? Is there such a thing?
Performance coil pack? Is there such a thing?
So I have the 2.3l in my ranger, I just put new plugs wires and a coil pack. I looked around online at some of the "performance" ignition stuff, and I was curious if the performance versions of these oem parts would give any noticeable improvements. What about these 400$ computer units that rewrites the factory settings on the chip? Anyone did any of these things on their 2.3l? Thanks in advance!!! I love this forum!!
Which 2.3l do you have?
1983 to 1997 2.3l SOHC, Lima engine
2001-2011 2.3l DOHC Mazda L engine
In general no, a working factory coil pack and a 3rd party coil pack will give engine the same power
And No, on reprogramming of factory computer, no car maker "detunes" any engine, they are in the business of selling performance
If you modify an engine, then you would want to reprogram computer to take advantage of the modification
i.e. turbo or super charger
A bigger cam or higher compression probably wouldn't need reprogamming on 1989 or newer 2.3l since they used MAF sensor
