please help, no check engine light but engine is bucking.
please help, no check engine light but engine is bucking.
Can someone tell me what's going on with my 2007 Ford ranger? I had an issue with cylinder 4 misfire originally. So I changed the spark plug in that cylinder but just the engine part seems to buck. When I put my foot on the gas the bucking stops. Its only when I'm idle that the bucking abd slight tick continues. I tried to attach a video of what its doing so maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Oh and there's a leak towards the front by the radiator where the coolant is. Please any ideas? Thanks

First thing is to clean the MAF sensor, easy to do, should be done once a year
So you had a P0304 code, misfire in #4 and changing the spark plug worked, code has not come back, about how long ago was that?
Stumbling and hesitation can be a few things, dirty MAF sensor is #1
How is it at highway speeds?
runs steady, and you can floor it and it goes no stumble?
So just has the issue and low RPMs like idling?
Does it idle high when cold and then idle slowly goes down as engine warms up?

We changed the spark plug like 2 days ago. It also came up once in a while with the p0420 code as well. It only shakes at idle, when we are driving it seems pretty normal except there is no power at all in the engine. Like totally sluggish. It seems to start to stumble when we slow down to a stop and then shakes uncontrollably and when we hit the gas it kinda stumbles and then is okay as we get going but dobt get much speed fast at all.
Also not sure how hott the catalytic converter is supposted to get. Normally it is between 1200 to 1400F but yesterday it went all the way up to 1600F which I have never seen before. Been monitoring it with my OBD 2 device.
okay so this afternoon, we checked the compression on all the cylinders. Cylinder 4 was the lowest at 120 which we were expecting already. The rest were all within the appropriate range, so load off my shoulders its not the cylinders. So now, do we.check the fuel injectors? If so, how do I go about doing that? I still have to clean the MAF sensor too.. but I just need some guidance into the next step. Thanks
