I'm pretty sure the power steering whine is a Ranger thing.

Suck out the old fluid, refill with synthetic ATF. Drive for a day or so.

Repeat until you've used a full quart of synthetic ATF.

Others say Lucas PS treatment works. I've never used it, because ^^^ works.

My ranger never did that...

Are you leaking power steering fluid? Is the resevoir full? What color is the fluid?

I would suggest getting it flushed out.. And maybe look into a new pump..

Its a ranger thing. The only thing you really can do is flush the fluid out and put new fluid in like stated above. Personally mine has never done it *knocks on wood*

Welcome to the world of owning a Ford. I think almost ever Ford truck I have owned has had the power steering noise. My fix for it is either a crazy loud exhaust or turn your radio up loud enough that you don't hear it.

mine does it, but not too loud. I can hear it in the cab if I listen for it, but I might try sum new fluid like stated above.
