Ford Powersteering systems have ALWAYS been loud, they have quieted down some, but if your fluid is not red it is time to flush it. if its a dark red, or black it could cause it to make noise. it is recommended to flush it every 30k depending on the condition of the fluid. i have flushed mine 3 times .... every 15k haha I dont want my pump to go to ****.

My ps fluid was purple from the factory on my last few vehicles, so you cannot go simply by the color. Ford recommends using ATF for the ps, but what it comes with from the factory is not red. I also have a 2001 F-350, which are famous for having very loud ps pumps, I added a little of the lucas ps fluid and the noise has gone away compleatly and it has been over 2 years since adding it.

Thats what the manual says should be used, but every new car/truck I have had for many years has been factory filled with a purple fluid.

I never took a picture of the girdle, but I will get one when I get home from work. I'm not sure how to post the picture though, so I may need some help.
