Catalytic Converter
Hi Everybody. I have a 94 Ranger Supercab 4.0 w/199,900K & I need info on removing cats & installing straight pipe. We don't have vechicle inspections in the state of Ga., and this is something I was just toying with. Since both O2
sensors are before the cats I was wondering about the effects on driveability & performance! Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks,
J.Terry

Orrrrr you could just keep your cat(s) and do the environment a favor.
I guess it's "anything goes" for some people though.

haha so the fact that ive spent the last few days gradually installing a full race header on a 06 rsx-s makes me a bad person.... welp the end result in performance and sound is a perfectly justifyable offset for me!
id ditch mine in a second if i had anyhting but this 3.0

Why make pollution when it's not necessary? You all are just too cheap to do it right and get performance WITH a CAT -- and it can be done.
So yes, you're an uncaring person who takes the easy way out. No respect for that.
If the vehicle is race only, who cares? But it's wrong to do it to a daily driver. Period.

I took the cat off of my car and it made a TREMENDOUS difference. Not only did it sound much louder at high RPM (pretty much the same at low RPM) it gave me atleast 25 HP at the tire. I had the car dyno'ed after I did this and a few other mods and I had increased 37HP so I don't know how much of this 37 came from having the cat off but I am guessing about 25. As for emissions testing, you can use spark-plug defoulers to pull the sensor out of the flow so that the sensors will not tell the computer that the cat is missing, this is what I did and it works perfect. I can pass emissions no problems.

and honostly, (tho not as much on our trucks) getting 10-30+ wheel hp on a single mod to a performance vehicle costing under $600 ($190 in my case) is one of the best cost to gain you an get

I did the downpipe from the turbo back and the testpipe at the same time. And yes the defouler trick works perfect. I have been running the car this way for nearly 4000 miles with no Check engine light (no codes, so the car will pass) 37 horsepower at the tire was the measured improvement from these mods (downpipe and testpipe)
