Ranger Buildup in Peterson's 4WDOR Nov '07

Known as the "Ultimate Danger Ranger"

I couldn't believe my eyes when my friend who subscribes to the magazine showed me this...

A 1997 Ranger Single Cab 4x4 being SAS'd & built for the Ultimate Adventure!!!

As I started anxiously reading through the article I started to become slightly disapointed with the build-up, A D30 Front Axle???

I mean yeah its cheap to come by, but why not a Waggy D44??? Well, I cut the guy Ali Mansour some slack (at least he got the replace 7.5 with 8.8 part right) and kept reading through... a interesting and innovative build as they are using Rock Krawler's YJ coilover conversion with the D30 for the front and 6" All-Pro yota leaves for the rear giving them 9" of lift in the rear with the factory lift block. He also plans on lowering the transfer case ratio, which we'll have to wait and see how that happens next issue...

Note: I looked back at the article and found that the truck was a SINGLE cab not the extended, my bad

Yeah. Not really sure why'd you'd choose a D30 and a 8.8. I guess maybe less custom stuff. The 8.8 is a direct bolt in, granted with leafs the 9" wouldn't be that much harder. Specially for guys with as much experience as Petersen's should have.

Who knows though. Maybe they have some products they want to try out for the 8.8 and the D30.

why get rid of the 1354? its perfectly fine. There are alot of guys with 1350/1354 doublers, that have never had a problem with them. I know of one particular fellow, who has broken his front D60 numerous times(42" TSL's), powered by a 4.0, but has never hurt his tcase.

i have heard from one person, who claims to have split the rear of the transfer case when you have lots of axle wrap. he did it twice before getting an atlas lol..

Technically wouldn't the better solution to this be to fix the axle wrap over getting a beefy *** T-Case? I mean... not saying an Atlas isn't a good solution but axle wrap is bad thing far as I know.

maybe he'll split his atlas then tell us thats a bad one.. he seemed really into his truck tho, i guess we all are? but i completely agree that you should deal with bad axle wrap first

Well the dude Ali doing the truck just signed on a few months ago with Peterson's and from my understanding this is his first magazine job so he probably doesn't have a whole lot of experience. Heck I wonder if he knows about Ranger-Forums or any other Ranger forum??? Hmm... maybe I'll have to email him the linky to here...

And yeah I would totally ditch the blocks as well, heck when I do my lift the blocks are going away
