Rough idle and engine stalls at high rpms.

Hi. I'm new to the site. I have spent the last two days looking at my truck and scratching my head. Yesterday I changed oil filter and oil, refilled the washer fluid, brake fluid and checked the radiator fluid level. This is all I did.
last night I went to the store and the enigne was idling rough and stalling at every light and stop sign on the way home,
Today I went over everything I could think of and still have no idea what the problem is, I am thinking it is some sort of sensor, but can't be sure and I don't want to start buying random parts as I don't have a lot of money,
First a little about the rig. its a 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L 4 cyl. with 8 plugs and almost 200,000 miles on it.
I checked some main issues that searching the web gave me and also the chilton manual.
I checked the maf sensor and from the advice i found on the web it said to unplug it. Well after doing that the engine died right away.
I can tell you that when in neutral I can accelerate a little with no issues but when I rev it up it slows down and dies. I can drive it slowly and be cautious with the accelerating and slow downs. and feather the gas pedal. but after driving it last night from the store to home I cannot go over 45 and slow quickly at a stop sign without it wanting to die.
Its my daily driver, so if anyone can give me something to go on I would apreciate it

thanks

My guess is the timing belt jumped a tooth when you shut the truck off.
At 200K you should be throwing the third one in there. They are only rated for 90K.
