Recall Question

Okay, so I got the mail today, and Ford Tells me I'm due for my 45k Checkup (would have been nice about 3000 Miles ago). But anyways, they gave me a reminder about the 02S32 recall on the 02 FX4 Rear Axles.

Question is, if they are sending this reminder about the recall, has it been done yet? It'd be neat if it hasnt, who wouldnt go for a new Axle? I'm going to call tommorow when I get my VIN number, but until then I'm pretty excited.

Anyone know?

if it HAS been done the recall SHOULD NOT have been sent to you, so I am guessing it has NOT been done yet, once all the paper work goes through Ford it "FINISHES" the recall campaign for that vehicle. Id go and get it checked out ... free axle hell yes!

NEAT! I wonder if they use 0 Mile axles, or rebuilt ones from the recalls? Either way, good as new. Not 48k!

The original recall from 2002MY was for new replacement axle assemblies. If yours has been replaced already, it is supposed to have a purple tag on it. If your truck was produced later in the model year, it should already have the improved Torsen.

NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 02V035000

Component: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT

Details: ON SOME MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH THE FX4 PACKAGE, THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE COULD FRACTURE UNDER A HIGH TORQUE EVENT SUCH AS WHEN CUSTOMERS ACCELERATE RAPIDLY FROM A STOP OR WHEN A SPINNING TIRE SUDDENLY GAINS TRACTION.

Consequence: DIFFERENTIAL FRACTURES COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN WHEEL LOCK-UP.

Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 29, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

Units Potentially Affected: 1096

Recall Initiated By: MFR
Date added to NHTSA datbase: 02/07/2002
Internal use: 2/7/2002
