SOHC Valve Cover
SOHC Valve Cover
So here I am JB welding my valve cover up because it leaks pretty bad and since my truck is a 94 the 4Ls at my disposal are different than mine (not a pushrod) so I cant find a replacement on kijiji or any salvage yards nearby. Fast-forward a few months and the JB weld doesnt hold too good and it's leaking somewhere else on the cover now aswell. I cant afford to keep topping it up with high mileage **** every couple times I drive a long distance. Does anyone in eastern Ontario or the Ottawa/Gatineau area know of a place I could grab a valve cover? The rest of the truck is in great shape and I'm a broke College kid so I'm kind of screwed
Also my dipstick holder just sort of rotted off but still sits in the motor so maybe I should do something about that too.

Yes, the 4.0l OHV valve covers rusted away on the lower edges in the rear, which is where the oil sits, so it leaks
This makes them hard to come by used, in usable condition, which is why you don't see them "used"
These engines were used 1990 to 2000, in several Ford vehicles
You can get new but $$$, about $50us per side
There is no internal pressure in the valve cover area, oil is just sitting there, pooled in the lower rear of the head, so its a gravity leak
Only use cork gaskets, not rubber, cork SWELLS up when oil on the inside is in contact with it, so self seals
Rubber valve cover gasket are used when you will be adjusting the valves monthly because they can be reused, but don't seal as well as cork
And do NOT torque down the bolts, that just bends the steel and makes for more leaks, these are just snugged up
You can also use spreaders in the rear or make your own, you need longer bolts for this
These are spreaders:
Any auto parts store will have them in different lengths, you only need a few for the lower edge, last 2 bolts in each side, just depends on where your valve covers are rusted out
