Spare tire fell off...

Okay, so I was driving down the highway, on an on ramp, hit a small bump and as i look in my mirror i see my spare tire bouncing around into oncoming traffic. Thank god nobody hit it. I got off at an exit, turned around and got it. Upon inspection, some wires that hold it up rusted through I guess. Ill take pictures and post this afternoon. I lost all the hardware too, so idk how I am going to fix it. Any suggestions?

Wirelessly posted

You mean the winch cable snapped?

I guess that would be what it is. its rusted and frayed. Do I just need to get a new cable and hardware?

Glad no one was hurt... I've always thought that there needs to be something extra besides that single cable holding that tire on!

I've looked on oreilly's website, and could only find the bottom mounting hardware. I can't find the cable or a diagram of the whole set up. Looks like I'm going to have to take it to the stealership and get a quote.

Seen it happen quite a bit actually. Mostly on Dodge Dakotas, had one of their spares hit a work truck I was driving and the person just drove off.

I think that's what I'll do. BTW, FULLSCALE, you have a beautiful truck.

Thats wayyy cheaper than buying the parts from my local dealer. I need 1-4 so I'll be out probably $100 with shipping. Thanks for finding that for me!!

Perhaps you could adapt one from and older Ranger, mine has a bar that goes across the middle and one that goes toward the back of the truck, it cradles the tire nice and tight, the only way it would go anywhere is if the bolt loosened.

You could just go to the junkyard and get one
