Still have dash light issue's
Still have dash light issue's
Ok so far I've replaced with new parts 5amp fuse, headlight switch, and the instrument panel dimmer switch and I still have no dash lights. I getting desperate does anyone have any other suggestions. Like maybe some other relay or something. All the connections feel good and tight. PLEASE any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Include the YEAR of your Ranger in posted question, and engine size as well
I went to Profile page and see 2004 Ranger listed
2004 was first year of the digital system, you have a Smart Junction Box(SJB) in the passenger kick panel, this is the Body Computer, it runs all the interior lights, fuse box is part of the SJB
The instrument cluster is digital as well, analog faces for gauges but they are digital
Google: ford hec testing
You may be able to tell if instrument cluster has a problem from codes it will display.
Yes there is an Interior Lamp Relay in the SJB
Do other interior lights work?
You can get 2004 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
It may tell you which relay is for interior lights
Here is the wiring diagram for 2004 instrument cluster, Connector C220A pin 11 powers the 6 bulbs in the cluster, but you would have to pull out the cluster to test it for 12v with lights on
Just a heads up, 2004 and up Rangers have the instrument cluster as part of the PATS(passive anti-theft system) so you can no longer swap out instrument clusters, each cluster has a unique ID code which is matched to the engine computers ID, so if dash is swapped or even unplugged engine will not start, until correct cluster is back in place
This prevents "car resellers" from Rolling back miles on older vehicles to get a better price.
A Ford Dealer can't even swap out instrument cluster unless they order a new cluster from Ford, it is shipped with correct odometer miles and a "hand shake code" so computer will accept it and remarry with new cluster

RonD, thank you so much
This is the most information I've got so far and it looks quite a lot Thanks. I now have some things to check out. It may take quite awhile to check it all out, I will let you know what happens. And by the way the only lights on the dash when I turn the lights on are high beam indicator, low fuel, seatbelt, door ajar, and 4x4 indicator. Again thanks
When you turn on the key, ALL warning lights and information lights should come on for 2 seconds or so, then go off except for a few, that is a Bulb test for those indicators, not a system test, just a Bulb test.
The warning lights you mention should not be on unless those systems are activated, nothing to do with light switch being on, if you are low on gasoline then low fuel light will be on, light switch shouldn't matter
Google: ford hec testing
And run the tests for the digital dash

I should have clarifyed
RonD you are correct. I should have mentioned that those lights are working as you say they should. The only other light is the dome light it operate with the dimmer switch.
