Tailgate Handle Broke (not the plastic)

Hey all.

I tried a search and all I found was on the plastic handle breaking. Well my plastic handle is fine. The metal bracket that the handle pivots on has corroded to the point that one side snapped and now I can't get the passenger side latch to operate.

Autozone said this was probably a dealer part. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a replacement handle/bracket assembly (does a new handle come with the bracket?)

Josh

Best bet is to go to the dealer, or find one in a junkyard. I wouldn't imagine it being too much from a dealer.

I got mine from Underdog-Performance - www.stuffforyourranger.com

It's metal with a metal bracket. Available CHROME or BLACK. I highly recommend it! You're lucky, too. I paid full price and it's now 33% off!!!

Get it while it's on sale! CLICK HERE

Thanks. Great find. Mine broke a few weeks ago and I replaced it with a plastic one. This looks a lot better.

his handle is fine, he needs the metal bracket that the handle pushes against.

Oh okay...I thought he meant the mount bracket that is attached to the handle and serves as the pivot point for the handle. (pictured in black behind the chrome handle above)

oh well i guess he could mean either the one attached to the handle or the other one inside the tailgate

Needforspeed is right. It is the metal bracket that the handle pivots on. I'm visiting my parents right now. When I get home later today I will snap some pics of the situation.

If thats the case you probably have to buy a whole new handle, they are only about $10 though so its no big deal.

yeah throw them pics up asap.

it's funny with a picture, you only need to post it with some paint shop circle around the broken part and the word help and you'll get all the info you need. descriptions get lost in translation lol

Pics will have to wait. Comcast cut my service for no apparent reason and right now I'm fighting the wireless connection at Starbuck's. (mean time between link failure is about 35 seconds. I'm clocking it.)

There's the trouble spot right there. Just right of dead center of that pic is where that rusted piece snapped in half.

Sorry, no red circle but I won't have photoshop again until I get my desktop fixed (chalk another one up to god).

What condition is the metal bracket in? Looking at it, it was poor design on Ford's part (exposed uncoated metal = bad news brown). I'd rather not get something that'll break again in a year.

*edit*

Nevermind. Looking closer at the stuff on ebay, they do have the bracket attached to them. I just purchased one for $15. Thank you kindly, though.
