hello folks,
total newbie here. i just totaled our 2001 ranger xlt. i wanna get her back on the road. lots of unknowns. we gonna need a frame (probably?) what years can be considered for donors? what are good sources for new parts? i'm gonna need a new interior, (headliner, etc) just got done dancing with some trees and wiping out about 40 feet of fence; t-posts, cattle panels, and 4 strands of barbed wire supported by one strand of barbed wire. shifted forward into the ditch, barely missed the tow truck driver. looks like frame damage is in the rear only. hood took minor damage; right side took the biggest hit driver's door still opens/closes, sorta. window not broken the back doors seem salvageable. possibly the bed.
Not sure why you want to rebuild something that destroyed, but to answer your question, you should stick with 1998-2003. Anything else is gonna be pretty significantly different from your truck.
It's honestly gonna be easier to find a truck with a blown motor or transmission, swap your good parts into it, and then drive the new truck.

thx...i agree, and that's basically the idea. The year range is the important bit of info. Plus, I may havta buy pieces because I may not be able to afford a "complete donor". Plus, interiors are often hard to find in decent shape. Ideally, yes, a "complete donor" is preferred.
+1 on the don't rebuilt that truck, your 2001 IS THE DONOR, you pull out the engine and transmission, tires and wheels, interior parts like seats(if they are good), and sell the rest for scrape weight
Find a 1998-2003 Ranger, or Mazda B-series, with same engine/trans, one of which is bad or both, then swap out the bad for the good
If you have a 4.0l SOHC engine then 2001-2011 Ranger or B-series
If 2.5l 4cyl, or 2.3l 4cyl then years change as well
3.0l the 1998-2003 would be best
There is no way you can rebuild that 2001, even if you just want "drive-able"/street legal, for less than cost of a Ranger/B-series with blown engine or trans

we have a 6cyl. I don't know the numbers. We know it won't be cheap , or even worth the money. This is for sentimental reasons. Thx for your comment

After you replace the cab, the doors, the frame, all the front end sheet metal, the bed, the glass, and parts of the interior, front suspension parts.
It's no longer the same truck, what's left to be sentimental about?
And then you'll have a heck of a time getting it titled , none of the VIN numbers will match.
Pull out the steering wheel and the drivers seat for sentimental reasons
There is not a straight body panel left on that 2001, and rear frame yes, FUBAR, but front looks tweaked as well
So replace frame and body and what do you have, another Ranger, so..................just get another Ranger
We are all for you "rebuilding" YOUR Ranger, we just think you need to take a good long look at what its going to cost you and what you end up with in the end
