Tranny Cooler!
Tranny Cooler!
Hey is there anyway I could remove my damaged tranny cooler and hook the in/out lines together and drive it till I get another one. Or do I just need to replace it right away and leave it at that.
Second Question, Should I stay with a stock tranny cooler or go aftermarket?

Up until 2001/2002 sometime, they used only the cooler in the radiator. If it's getting cooler where you are you can definitely "bypass" your damaged cooler and use only the one in the radiator. I wouldn't do that in deep summer putting a load on the truck, but this time of year? No problem -- only maybe it doesn't GET cool down there in Houston, lol.
But for a short stretch, I doubt you'll hurt anything. Look at many auto Rangers from earlier years and many don't even HAVE the aux cooler. My 2001 did not but my 2002 does.

I ran a Flex-a-Lite 28,000GVW Trans cooler along with my stocker.. let me tell you, its stayed ice cold.. lol..
I wouldn't run with out it (not saying you cant). Its been said that for every 20degrees over 'normal' you go you are cutting the trans. fluids life in half (from amsoils site I believe) which isn't good for the trans its self..
My 99' doesnt run through the rad....

Ah, interesting, I thought they all did. Most of them I've seen run to the drivers side of the radiator first, then to the auxilliary cooler.
Since he's changing the fluid anyway, he's unlikely to have any lasting problems.

Well, both my Ranger's (the standard cab 2001 3.0 I wrecked, and this 2002 I have now) had the 5R44E tranny and they both have had the radiator cooler, but the 2001 was lacking the auxilliary cooler in front of the radiator and AC condenser.
