tranny issues

ok.. so lots of you know about my new truck... well a 98, but new to me. ive been driving it for 2 days now and ive noticed that the transmission is very difficult to shift through. its not slipping or anything.. it just seems really tight or sticky. its driveable but really a pain in the butt. should i try to run some Lucas tranny stuff through it? i know the fluid is full so thats not the issue. i just gotta get this figured out. help me please.

manual? if so you should first try some good synthetic ATF since the old tranny fluid may have been in there for a long time

ATF is recommended for the Rangers. The ATF in our trannys comes up so often that it makes me wonder if the garages know thats whats recommended. I lost 4th gear the other day and when I drained my tranny the fluid was black, and didnt smell like ATF either. Mine was shifting really rough before I changed it also, now even though I dont have 4th it is shifting smoother.

ATF is just thin oil basically its not some magic auto transmission fluid.

Ranger manual's are spec'ed for Mercon/Dextron III

Ranger automatics are spec'ed for MERCON V

You can also use something like REDLINE MTF (manual transmission fluid)

also you can use cheap .99$ walmart brand ATF as long as its Dextron III / Mercon rated NOT mercon V rated

Ask what your mechanic topped it off with?
