Truck drops into reverse

Excuse my ignorance if this has already been discussed in the forums. I’ve had this ranger for a good time now got it from my grandpa but know that I’m on break I can take the time to assist this problem. I have a 04 ranger edge 2wd automatic. Whenever I put it in reverse the whole car drops other than that it’s fine and it runs through drive perfectly. Any thoughts on this?

I wish I could post a video to this but... I’m parked I get into my truck and start it when I put it into reverse to back out of my driveway or anywhere and then right when I put it into reverse it suddenly drops. Ima post it to YouTube in a sec

I guess proper way to explain it is that it slams into reverse.

If you mean the back end of the truck drops down when you shift in to Reverse could be rear axle is shifting/rolling, have some one shift in to reverse while you watch rear axle

"Slams" into reverse could mean idle is way to high, but it would "slam" into drive as well
If there is a delay when shifting into Reverse then could be internal pressure issue in the transmission
You have a 5R44E transmission in a 2004

Ok so the back end drops only in reverse but if I hold the break into the floor it doesn’t do it as bad. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zHePJ2...ature=youtu.be
This is the truck doing it usually it would drop more than this but this is what I recorded. And it doesn’t slam into drive so I believe my idle to be ok.

Given the video presented, I'm inclined to agree with Ron here. Though on most trucks, I've just come to expect the "shift thud" so to speak.

Perhaps a new filter and some fluid might help out, when was the last time it was serviced.

I just serviced the rear diff but idk when the last time the transmission was serviced but I need to replace the tranny oil and filter anyways so I’ll do that. Is that filter you are referring to?
