Mine are either 14mm or 9/16". The holes in the spring plates are larger yet, maybe around 5/8".

That sounds right. I'm pretty sure the ones I bought were SAE, 9/16" now that you mention it.

Yeah, the holes are pretty large -- I think the larger diameter ubolts are a good idea.

The nuts on the things were pretty big on mine: 7/8 or 15/16 believe.
