Using 4x4

Hi and thanks in advance for your replies. I'm new to the forum and appreciate any help.

My question is, will I damage my truck if I use the 4x4 on wet pavement that may or may not be slick per say.
The reason I ask is because I have had 2 accidents now mainly due to being in 2 wheel drive when I should have used the 4x4.
Now before somebody says it, I'm not blaming the truck totally, and I was in both cases driving according to the weather conditions but was caught off guard by slick patches on the road.
Last winter I lost control on the interstate highway and hit a guard rail which caused 3 grand in damage to my truck and 4 grand in damage to state property.
I just spun out tonight in the same fashion only this time I ended up on the edge of a ravine. This last one could have been much worse but I was saved by a couple of saplings.

I try to switch out of 4x4 when ever the road seems clear enough but twice now doing so has proven to be a huge mistake. I am thinking that unless the road is absolutely clear and dry (during the winter months) I should keep it in 4x4.
I know that being in 4x4 still is not a guarantee but I'm quite certain that has I used 4x4 I would not have had either of the accidents that I mentioned. Now this leads me to another somewhat related question. My particular truck comes around like no other truck I have ever driven. It almost seems like something is wrong with it. The first accident, or fish tailed a few time before I completely lost control but the accident tonight, the rear end just came around with now warning at all. I was on the edge of the ravine before I knew what the heck was going on. And in fact I have had a couple of close calls at highway speed by just hitting a bp in the road in good summer weather.
I know the ranger is a small and fairly light vehicle but the reaction of the back end seems quite extreme to me. Does this behavior sound normal to you all or is something odd about my particular truck.

Thanks
