When you test drove it you didn't bother to look under the hood? That is the first thing i would have done if somone told me "this is a v8 ranger". All you needed to do is count the wires. Takes 1min and 30seconds Max. I dont think your friend knows much about his fords if he is saying that a factory ranger has a 4.6. In the future just discard what he says.

Let's face it, there is no option for a 4.6 in these from the factory. I just looked up an engine in my parts guide and the only options are 2.3, 3.0, 4.0. I even went on to FMC Dealer and there is no option code for ordering this vehicle. It has to be a dealer mod or someone was scraping the bottom of the bowl when filling the bong.

I really doubt this, but it'd be cool if it were true.

10 bucks says it wasn't a Ford at all, and it wasn't at a Ford Dealership, and it wasn't he who test drove it, and his friend doesn't work there, and I am hungry, and it wasn't a V8, and there are too many commas in this sentence, and I can't remember how to end a sentence so I have to keep going, and ...oh wait I just remembered .

I bet someone else put it in, unless the dealership had them do it to have an attention getter at the dealership.
But yeah right, that would be the biggest news for the ranger since the FX4
S#!% I will trade my truck in right now!

I have seen a show truck with a 4.6 and half of the stuff wasn't even hooked up because the damn motor is to big.

The 4.6 is huge

They don't have it as an option on the web site, so it can't be an 07. After 08 they are closing the plant in which they are made, and since Ford has proven time and time again that they don't want to put much money into there small pick up line, I highly doubt that they would sink all of this money into a ranger for one more production year. I work in the auto industry and there isn't much I don't hear about the big three. The assembly line would need some major re-tooling to shoe horn a 4.6 liter into a ranger, I havent heard anything about re-tooling and neither have any of my many MANY sources here in the motor city, so I am sorry to say......... as the Mythbusters would say, This myth is busted.....

Can some one post up the pic of the 4.6 next to the 5.0 to show why there isn't a 4.6 in a ranger.

There has been one 4.6 in a ranger before it was a thunderbolt built by the SVT team. I highly doubt that truck made it to a lot.

^I think you're talkin about the 5.4L/SC combo that they did; transplated a lot of parts from a lightning into a reg cab/flareside ranger..

I know there is a comparison pic of a 5.0L and 4.6L around here, i've seen it before

There are a few people on here that have the 4.6 swap done or in process. Its hard and time consuming. There is no 4.6L stock. I called my grandpa who has been with Ford a a service technician trainer for 35 years and retired 2 years ago. He said that there never was enough initiative to put it in due to the price for RD and overall price of the truck. It would be a nice special order option but would be on the pricey side.
