thought id get a idea of whats the major gen over here, im guessing gen 5 but that could be wrong

 

i got a 98 gen 4, woo woo the only ranger year to come from the factory with painted doorhandles/tailgate

none of those ugly black plastic handles

 

Black handles look good on my black 04

 

Mine are chrome...

I like it that way, easier to see at night in dark areas...same with the lock cylinders.

 

the 04's are not considered a Gen6, this was discusssed previoulsy on another webiste and the conclusion was there was not enough changes to make the 04 a new Gen.
Sure there were some differnet options avail and they changed the grill, hood, fogs and MAF on the 4.0 being part of the airbox.
It's not....sorry to bust your bubble....LOL JK Scott.

ok, unless theres a lot more, then its the same damn thing...and i know awhile back there was a fight for gen5s being real 5s or just anyother verison of the gen4...

so in my book they are gen6s and i dont see why not

Oh yeah I own a Gen2 AND a Gen5? so would I add the two together and divide by 2? that would be a Gen3.5 :p .... can I vote for more than 1?

 

one problem with that logic

yeah, that came out beginning of 01, but they still had the 2.5, 3.0 and then mid 2001 came out with tthe duratec 2.3 (different then the older lima 2.3) so if i go by your logic, my truck (with the duratec 2.3) should be a gen 6 and not a gen 5 since a new engine came out

I dont think engines make the generation, or else the gen 1-4 would be the same since they all have the 2.3 (lima) 2.5 (lima0, 3.0 and 4.0

 

it's a combination of everything, I wouldn't particularly worry about the duratec as it's slower than me anyways... lol I know low blow.

by the way, who voted for a Gen6?

Well mine came with Painted door handles... does that count? lol Tailgate handle is black tho, but that works with my red and black theme :p

 

I dont know what every body is arguing about, it is pretty easy to look at the Rangers and see the 5 differant stages they went through...

I got Jipped!!!! I owwn an '00 XLT gen 4 and I have those Shizzitty fading black plastic handles. Oh well. Time to body color match!!

 

Headlight change normaly dentones a Generation change. I have a Geb 1 and a Gen 5, but voted for Gen 5 cause I drive it, and the Gen 1 has no motor.

 

what gen would a 00 be 4? oh and another difference is the fx4 package. not avaliable in the 98-00's.

I think they are all the same. I mean look in your bed, you still have the second filler neck stamped inside even though that hasn't been an option for almost 20 years.

No, but there was the ORP, STX and such packages. I hear the STX Gen 1's were pretty badass off pavement. Prolly more-so than the current FX4 LII..

 

Look at the backside of the bed, behind the wheel-well. There's a 'bump' in the side just like there is in the front. It's not actually a neck, but rather just a change in the shape of the bed to accomodate a neck.. Drop in bed-liners and bed-mats need to be cut around these.
