Just bought a 2010 Ranger XLT with 16,500 miles on it. It has the 4.0 V-6. I am tempted to put dual exhuasts on it. What needs to be done engine wise like tuning or with the computer and can I expect better acceleration and gas milage?

 

Nothing, its not worth it you won't see huge gains. Just put an exhaust on for the sound of it.

 

This ^^ If youre going for looks or sound go for it but dont waste your time if youre going for performance gains.

 

First thing, don't listen to half the idiots on this site. They don't have a clue to what their saying. I put duals on my 01 3.0 and IT DID make a difference. Throttle response was much better and I gained 2 mpg. The cost is not that great, paid $240 for mine and it was custom made. You will notice a difference in performance and it sounds great.

Unless you have a tuner you will not see gains from an exhaust especially if its cat back.

ANd $240 for a custom made exhaust that gave you throttle response and 2 MPG is pretty far fetched.

the ranger DOES NOT have enough power to realize the gains of a true dual exhaust unless you use like 1" pipe. it needs the backpressure, and running 2" true duals will not do anything, and can even have a negative affect if you aren't getting enough backpressure. I think from the cat back after the bolt flange, the pipe gets smaller, so at most I would get a catback system that has a larger pipe, and if you are wanting a dual catback kit, they are made, and will make you feel better. On mine, I have just replaced the muffler, although I do have another one to swap in now, but spending much money on duals is really a waste.

 

Throttle response?!?!?! Really? Do you have a Drive by Wire system....'cause on my '02, I have a cable driven throttle....the only thing you gained was a BS shooter of a mouth. And I bet you put a fart can on it too....

 

I put a dual on mine a while back and noticed noting but sound

 

Exhaust along with a tuner and cold air intake will make a difference. With all three mods you might see 2mpg gain...

Exhuast alone wont do much on Ranger. It will sound great though.

I had a chip, a short pipe and a vortex on my F-lariat...no noticeable mileage gain and always had a hard time with our smog laws here....the mileage gain is deceiving because of wanting to make the wheels chirp all the time when pulling out of a stop, on the hyway the drone sound drove me crazy.
When I replaced the cat on my 95 ranger 4banger...my ol skool muffler guy took a few bends out of the pipe and hey it tightened up that little engine and sure sounded good in the tunnels for no extra costs.
I'd wait if you got a 10 and take your GF out or sumthing !
