I have a problem with my braqke lights and i can't seem to be able to fix it. I have checked all of my fuses and put 2 new brake peddle switches in and nothing works. My hazards blinkers and running lights all run off the same bulb as my brake lights and everthing works except for my brakes lights. So if any one has any suggestions on how to fix this problem it would be appreciated

Do you have the correct bulb in the socket? Some bulbs can only be used for certain functions. Might have the wrong bulb in one of the sockets.
Just an idea....

 

If I'm not mistaken, the brake lights go through the turn signal switch. When you press the brake pedal, does your test light light up or not? Just another suggestion to look at. As info, my wifes cousin lives in cocoa beach & I have an uncle that lives by there also on the Indian river. Good luck.

 

I do not have a 3rd brake light I have an 85 4x4 i should have put that in the post

 

and i have a dual filament bulb witch ive been told is the correct bulb.... ive also been told i could have a bad ground but i have no idea where my ground wire is at

 

2 wheel drive//4 wheel drive, doesn't matter. The diagnosis will be the same!

 

sounds like you either have a bad hazard switch or relay..or a bad brake light relay.....those relays are usually under dash directly under steering colum.

 

or you have an open lead wire / ground, so a continuity test wouldn't hurt

 

Hi, I just jumped in the middle. Brake lights don't work but third brake light does. What should I check next? 97 Ranger.

Yes the third brake light is good. All other lights good too. Just changed alternator.

 

We are having the same issue...3rd brake light good, turn signals, flashers. all lights work but brake lights. 93 Ranger help!!!!!!!!!!
