My truck is 3.0 auto 2wd and when I put it into reverse when I first start the truck the rpms, jump up real high and the truck wants to take off in reverse for like 5 seconds but i have my foot on the break so it doesn't move, and then almost stalls before it goes back to normal. Also the other day when I started my truck, I put it into drive and pulled out and then there was a big thud from the trans area and then my truck started to idle high and rough and also smoke alittle and I could smell oil burning, and when when I tried mashing the gas to see if it would work itself out I got no response, so I pulled over and shut the truck off for a couple of minutes and started it back up and everything seemed to be fine. Now I know the trans was engaged when I first pulled out its almost like it wasn't engaged the whole way then kicked in. The truck has been running alittle rough since then but nothing like the first time. I dont know what it is so any help would be appriciated. The truck only has 34,800 miles on it, so let me know what you guys think, thanks

 

Does it happen cold or hot? Do you let the engine run for a few seconds before placing it into gear? How often does it do it?

 

reverse thing cold and happens every day and yeah I usually let it run for a couple seconds before I put it into reverse. the other thing has really only happened once and it was "hot"

 

How many miles are on your truck. Could be something in the valve body or just maybe a fluid and filter change would help.

 

well if there was a clank in around your trans area then you might wanna check your trany mount and motor mount's.
