Doesn't Ford use a semi-synthetic oil?

Also how may people put magnets on their filters to trap any metallic particles? If you're giving your baby the best, then you might as well be trapping and discarging any metal shavings that will appear no matter what oil you use.

Ford and the guy across the street (neighborhood mechanic) do my oil changes. I'm too freakin' busy to do stuff like that, nor do I have the space or resources. They get real pissed at you if you start working on your truck in the parking lot of your apartment building.. Ask me how I know! :|

edgecellent02 06-29-2004 04:58 AM

I've always changed mine, atleast in the past 3 vehicles I owned. Including the Edge. Before than my Dad changed it.

I don't trust those places either. I've heard too many horror stories. Actually, I changed my oil this past weekend, and also the fuel filter.

New Truck for me...opinions?

i cost me $13.95 to have a shop do it for me, they use castrol and that change your oil, filter and all this other stuff that do...

DownSouthTAS 06-29-2004 10:20 AM

I started changing my oil myself when the local shop forgot to refill my friends car with oil after changing it for him once.

Mnemonic 06-29-2004 11:34 AM

Does the Ranger have any bushings or joints that require lube?

D. 06-29-2004 01:06 PM

As funy as this sounds.. My truck has 20k miles now.. Its had 1 oil change at 4900 miles..

My problem is.. I dont have an engine in long enough without it dickinup or blowing up to change the bloody oil ;)

How To powertrax locker and axle girdle

I change it myself everytime except for once after I had surgery. Had the local quik lube change it. (its run by 1 old guy the owner) I almost never got the oil filter off again too much leverage when you have a pit to stand up in.

Anyway I use the motorcraft filters.. Too good a buy at 2.97 (walmart)
Never had a bad one yet. The oil I use changes widely though.

Ford dealer pissed me off. I had 500miles on m1 syn and they dumped it for some bulk CRAP that was black in about 500 miles when they did the timing chain replacement/update.

Swoop1156 10-19-2005 06:18 AM

I change mine as well, John-boy made sure I knew how to do it, well he just was on the phone and told me what to unscrew! And I can change my own tire as well.

V8 Level II 10-19-2005 11:04 AM

Our family has six vehicles and I change oil in all of them myself. Each car/truck has the filter number, oil capacity and drain plug size written on the rad support so i don't have to figure it out every time.

Roach2004 10-19-2005 11:07 AM

I change mine myself and only use amsoil or mobile1

blckout 10-19-2005 11:10 AM

ford changes mine.

optikal illushun 10-19-2005 11:39 AM

my garage looks like a shop, we have enough supplies to change the oil in my truck, my dads and my moms xploder 5 times...

Wowak 10-19-2005 03:59 PM

The only time I haven't changed my own was when I had a 4 cly, FWD car, with the filter on the back of the motor, with a large K-member under it, that made it nearly impossible to grab without the car on a lift. I paid for changes on that until I traded it on the 02 Edge. As for lifetime oil-changes at the dealership.. its probably fine, but when I see that oil being pumped out of the huge tank, I couldn't help but wonder (outloud, once, to a bunch of employees:) So if they bring it in in a tank-truck, how do you really know that its Motorcraft oil? Their responses generally agreed that it probably was NOT motorcraft oil, but whatever they could buy cheapest in bulk. Even if it was Motorcraft, the various cars all call for different grades, but they all get the tank oil, whatever it may be (unless you buy your own oil and provide it, in which case theres a 98% chance it will actually end up in your car.)

n3elz 10-19-2005 04:16 PM

Amsoil Series 2000 -- I change my oil once a year and get it tested. Generally it's NOT worn out, just getting thicker. Every 6K or 8K I throw a new filter and 1/2 quart to a quart in to top it off. Simple.

I'm on my 3rd year of one year oil changes.

Brit-ranger 10-19-2005 04:26 PM

Redneckstone 10-19-2005 04:33 PM
