Man theres nothing like the satisfaction of pouring in 4.5qts of Mobil 1 full synthetic and knowing you're taking care of your baby yourself.

Who changes their own oil?

i used to get it changed but starting next change i am doing it myself.

Bailey 06-27-2004 06:46 PM

My dad is teaching me how to do it. So far I havent been able to do it with out a little help. But Im getting there!

ToughFord 06-27-2004 06:47 PM

i wont trust anyone other then my own hands to change my oil seen some pretty nasty things happen at a oil change place

Bailey 06-27-2004 06:51 PM

Yep, between double-gasketed filters leaking all over and drain plugs torqued on with an air-gun so tight they'll never come off again, I've seen enough out of Jiffy-Lube type places to never trust them with my truck. Besides, for the cost of a generic filter and generic oil at Jiffy Lube, I can put on a Motorcraft filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic.

rngprerunner 06-27-2004 06:54 PM

I used to pay EzLube to do it, but then I got cheap and started doing it my self.

I like that Avatar too... theres a little piece of my truck in there also... ;)

3LiterBeater 06-27-2004 07:10 PM

I like to know whats really sloshing around in there. I have seen too many people have their oil changed and come to find out that they... put in too little or too much oil, failed to change the filter, left the filter or drain plug loose and it leaks, etc and just assume do it myself..

ZetaOmegaRanger 06-27-2004 07:15 PM

I've never let anyone touch my truck unless it was warranty work or something i didnt have the capability to do it....

RescueRangerFX4 06-27-2004 08:06 PM

All these years I've been doing it my self! But now with the new truck, I let Ford do it. I watched them carfully and not let them do something rash like not respecting my vechile and all!!! lol

gatorblue92 06-27-2004 08:34 PM

penzoil oil and fram oil filters have not let me down yet... i got 300,000 miles out of my 92 and it was still running when i sold it

I know full well how to change my oil, and could do it easily if I had some of the things I'd want, but mostly, I'm just too bloody lazy.

SoundPer4mance 06-27-2004 09:13 PM

i decided to learn how to change oil when my uncle told me they had trained monkeys to do it. i wont let a monkey show me up. although i did get lazy once and pay a bargain price for some new shop to change the oil in the torino. short story, i needed a new oil pan. never again. once you learn how to do it and do it fast, its easy. i changed the oil in my truck, jannettes truck, and the torino in 30 mins last weekend. there is a certain satisfaction in knowing you did it yourself, and knowing that you have some good oil and a good filter on there.

Mnemonic 06-27-2004 09:17 PM

I had the dealership give me 5 free oil change coupons when I bought my truck. Still got one left. I know it's done right because I check the dipstick for new oil, and my oil filter has a permament marker X on it. Once you work for a firestone, or any other lube place, the novelty of doing your own oil change takes on new meaning.

dave01978 06-27-2004 09:48 PM

i usually change my own oil had the dealer do it a few times when it was in for service or in the cold months where i aint laying on the frozen ground

dirty 06-27-2004 09:50 PM

i do it my self. i buy a case of oil and two oil filters and it cost the same as one change at one them fast lube joints. i only have them change it when iys way over due and i dont have time. thats it.
ubnless i take it to the familys mechanic and then i no its right

ZetaOmegaRanger 06-27-2004 09:56 PM

I have always changed my own oil...but here is my question...does anyone else use the Motorcraft filters...i had to back to back with bad seals on them so i have started paying premium and use Bosch filters only now....

rngprerunner 06-27-2004 10:30 PM

My truck has had Mobil One filters since the second change (not sure who makes them, but they had the Mobil logo on them) This last change I went with the K&N because it is the only one that has an Anit Drain back valve that actually works.

thelowranger 06-27-2004 10:55 PM

use mobil 1 for oil and a mobil 1 syn. filter too, usually costs bout $30

redranger4.0 06-27-2004 11:01 PM

the last two times has been jiffy lube. but only cause my parents said they'd pay for it so i figured id save myself a little money.

Nothing but the best for my baby. My two hands, Royal Purple and Motorcraft.

TheForce02 06-27-2004 11:14 PM

i always change my own oil, though ford has done it like 3 times. i won't let them do it though ever since the screwed up the filter once. i went to change my oil after the previous time they did it and i turns out that whoever changed it couldn't tighten the filter so somehow they crushed the bottom sides of the filter in!!! i never had a problem with it luckly, but if i did then ford would have paid for it!!!

FLPanther 06-28-2004 01:18 AM

I started changing the oil myself after a local shop forgot to add the extra qt of oil for the filter on my old saturn. I changed the oil on my 1998 myself everytime Mobil 1 syn and Fram filters. The 04 is not due for a change till Oct and I got a coupon from the dealer so I'll let them do it just that time the 2nd change will be with Mobil 1 syn and my 2 hands ;).

blacknight 06-28-2004 01:20 AM

I voted twice, for me doing it, or for the guys across the street here at work, doing it. it depends on the weather, i don't want to be down on the ground at -2 below 0, with snow, changin oil, ain't my lifestyle ;)... NOW me driving through that snow, at -2 degrees out, thats a different story :-D
