Icon5 Why do people NOT care about their vehicals?

I can never understand this, maybe someone here can explain it. the second biggest most expensive thing people will buy, is a car or truck. and yet they beat the **** out of them, never wash them and some dont even do regular maintnence. I dont get it. You spend oodles of cash on something and then dont take care of it, but then they btch at their kids to take care of their stuff, when they dont even take care of their uber expensive vehical... what gives?

While it may not make sense, it is their money.

I don't really wash my Explorer. It gets washed after off roading, but even then it does not get the luxury of soap, just water. It was only $950 and is a true beater though. I do maintain it very well.

heh mine was pre beat. previous owner trashed the truck in ways, in the cab the bed is dented, and ive added my few dents from useing the truck as a truck. its luckey to see a bucket of suds and a brush usualy when im sick of looking at it. now im single it might catch the suds bucket more ofton for the chicks that are far n few between. never less im proud of my dirty truck lol.

as for the ppl who trash new cars n truck, there wasted money.

This is exactly why I will never buy a new truck. I couldn't bring myself to trashing it on a trail and filling the engine bay full of mud. I would be too afraid to scratch it also.

That doesn't mean I treat my current vehicle like crap. I take good care of it and wash it when it needs it. I also wax it at least 2 times a year.

I don't understand why people trash a beatiful automobile.

what i dont get is why people dump TONS of money into their already expensive vehicle then dont use it for its intended purpose.

i wheel my truck hard, ill admit that..
pretty much what he said ^^
ill wash it when it needs it, but as soon as i wash it i get it dirty within a few days...
i gave up on keeping everything looking prestine a long *** time ago, but ill still keep my truck looking decent and do all the normal maintenence.. i still have a nice body, no body damage except for a few small dents here and there, and the tailgate is pretty beat up
its the fact that people dont do anything with their cars that bugs me, go 10k on an oil change, all that crap

I agree with you Matt to a certain extent. I do wheel my truck but not hard mainly cause it HAS to be able to get me to work and back on a daily basis. If I break something wheeling it will take my at least a week to get the $$$ to get the parts i need to fix it. I dont have a backup truck. I left BMRA early cause the trials were to hardcore for my truck and my driving skills to handle. I do enjoy offroading but i enjoy my pay check more.

im my area i see it so much i know its more widespread but its my bigest pet peive, burnt out lights on cars. some junk cars have no left headlight or amber maker light and on dark side streets im came close to hitting them. so many no working tail lights and some stuff with NO stop lights at all.

im a truckers son, doubt that has anything to do with much but i every so ofton check all my lights. dont take but 2 min in thew dar to make a quick check.

my dad left thew house one eveing to pick me up from night school and the right front headlight burt out enroute to my school 2 mile drive. a cop pulls my dad over for burnt out light. fixit ticket. no bigie easy 5 min fix on saterday. pisses me off is the damn people drive night after night after night with non working lights and i dont see them getting tickets. and cops have been sitting in the lane next to them in plain sight and nada.

just me had to vent.

to many people there are many more important things in life than some automobile, nothing wrong with that the purpose of an automobile is to get you from point a to point b as long as it still does it why mess with it.

mine has not been washed in 3-4 weeks i have not had time, between work and school there is not much time to wash it.

I was not bashing you Dave in any way, shape,or form. If you read my first statement i was bashing my friends who wheel the **** out of their trucks and dont care if they break parts cause they got the funds to fix it....The "living at home" comment was not directed to you in anyway. It was to my friends.

Yea that does bug me. This was my first vehicle i bought at 15 with cash that was all mine. I worked hard for that cash. How ever i agree 99ranger 4x4. I baby it but i am not afraid to use it. However i will not abuse it. I detail it one a week keep up on oil changes and such. Keep miles off of it (at 59k right now). I will not go down a narrow trail for fear of unecessary body damage. Right now it has minimal scratches, allot of rock chips in inconspicuos places, and no dents. Farmer fields with lots of mud is for me=)

I admit I let my Bronco slip, but it still runs, all the lights work, and aside from a few small repairs, I'd trust it to get to New York.

I bought my Ranger to replace the Bronco, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting a newer Ranger. I wanted a 93-97 with the TTB for a decent lift and it was older so I wouldn't have a problem with paint or dents. Now that I got my 02, I still take it out, wheel it, but I also maintain it, wash it 2-3 times a month, and detail it after every trail run.

I'm constantly harping on my dad, since he doesn't take care of his vehicles, and goes through them like crazy. He gets frustrated with the bronco sitting on the street in front of the house, but he has 2, you heard me, 2 non operating vehicles around the house and won't fix them. His argument, they're cheap and I don't have the money to do the maintenance on them.... makes no sense to me.

Many people find it easier to kill a car and buy another.

Man you would hate to see my Explorer. I only do regular maintenance on it. I haven't washed it since I have owned it and the only thing that is clean is the steering wheel and the drivers seat (I am a Clean freak, so basically everything I have to touch is clean) But the rest of my cars are spotless. This truck was a POS hail damaged 100K+ rig when I got it. It is there to solve three purposes, get me to work, Get me to the hunting grounds, and to be there if I need it for an emergency. other than that I could care less about it. If it burned tomorrow I would only miss my CD's.

Alot of people dont understand enough about the cars, they dont understand the damage that not doing regular maintenance can cause.

Also alot just dont have the money, I went 1k over my oil chage because I didnt have the 30 bucks to have it done, I have a trany that will only go in to revers when it feels like it and shifts like crap going down the road, and my ball joints are so worn out they have slack in them. I just dont have the money to fix the problems.
