I never understood this either. People go out and spend about $25K on a new car and don't do much to it. Maybe, note I said maybe people figure there actually protecting it by following the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" adedge. That for convience as well. I learned this when I used to detail cars for people back in the day.

I used to take care of my truck like a Cadillac, now it's lucky if it gets washed. -Mike-

Also Some people just aren't into cars. My lawnmower was expensive too, but since I am not into lawnmowers I can count on one finger the number of times I have so much as touched it with a wrench and that was to get the blades sharpened. My Dad buys vehicles and racks up so many miles on them that he trades them in every couple of years. So whats the incentive to take care of it. I know for a Fact that the explorer I now own (My Dad's last explorer) has gone 10K plus on an oil change (And this isn't that I spent $100 on a synthetic oil change either, this is cheap Carquest oil with the cheapest filter available). I just did the rear brakes for the first time and they were at 150K and well the front pads have been change the rotors have never been off the car. When I took the wheel off last week they were actually cracked. Is it good? Not really, because this time instead of trading it in, he sold it to his son. Is it bad? Not really, he buys them like one would buy tools from Menards. You work them hard and when they break, throw it away and buy a new one.

I have greaseable balljoints whoich are 10x better than the stock balljoints and would outlast them. They are not at any weird angles or anything so why would they wear out faster?

Also sitting on the frame has nothing to do with wearing anything out.

I USED to keep my truck washed & waxed once a week.... until the @$$holes in the parking lots started scratching & denting my paint.... then all on it's own, the paint started chipping off one side of the bed.... then the hood got tons of spider web chips & it just looks like crap when it's clean.
Now, I just let the dirt build up to where I don't see all the paint problems...
As for the windshield, I have to clean the dirt & bird crap off it every time I have to go anywhere.
It runs & drives as good as it did the day I bought it, I've just lost the will to throw money away on a new paint job that some half blind old lady is going to scratch with the door of her 1976 Cadillac.

I remember the first time I got some body damage, Leaned my bed up against a tree at the top of a climb. Ever since then I could care less about the body and paint. I plan on beating the body till it no longer resembles a ranger, then Truggy time.

thats the problem once you start getting into hardcore trails, body damage is going to happen, might as well not car about it. I fully expect to not have a straight panel on my truck. Im not much of a finesse driver, though. When in Doubt Throttle Out.

Would you believe me if I told you my buddy had an old Nissan that he NEVER changed the oil/lubcircants on (Tranny/Engine included), and he drove it for over 90k miles.. it ran jsut fine, UNTIL someone changed the oil in it, and it decided to peter out and blow up after that.. coudl be bad carma.. it was wierd though, I constantly *****ed at him about taking care of it.. and was amazed it didnt go sooner..!

For myself, I soap and sud my truck every now and then, maybe once a month, twice.. depends on how often I take it off roading, i ont liek having mud caked on it and keeping it there.. bad for tha paint. But I honestly dont wax that often, and dont feel the need to spend all the extra money on all the special car treatments to make it look liek the day you drove it off the lot.

Cleaning with soap is good, takign care of it, vacuuming/shampooing it out from time to tiem to keep teh interior looking good.. Some peopel jsut dont have teh time and/or money to go the extra mile to keep it perfect condition.

i wheel my truck hard, ill admit that..
pretty much what he said ^^
ill wash it when it needs it, but as soon as i wash it i get it dirty within a few days...
i gave up on keeping everything looking prestine a long *** time ago, but ill still keep my truck looking decent and do all the normal maintenence.. i still have a nice body, no body damage except for a few small dents here and there, and the tailgate is pretty beat up
its the fact that people dont do anything with their cars that bugs me, go 10k on an oil change, all that crap
I hear ya Matt. Why buy a $2K lift just to be a "pavement pounder"!? Jeez ppl grow some *****!! Mine sits pretty much stock, its just as "nice" or "flashy" as any other Ranger on here. I got a 4x4 for a reason. Not only yo get me to my stand and back, but to just see what a 4x4 can do. If somethin breaks, replace it with somethin stronger. Get a scratch? Thats charater.
