Will a 1996 power steering pump fit a 1999
Will a 1996 power steering pump fit a 1999
I just bought a used 2.3 1996 ranger for parts for 300$. I will be taking the transmission off for my 1999 2.5l. will the power steering pump work from it? And the rest to sell for scrap once i have a took all necessary parts and bolts.
No, from a quick parts search it looks like Ford changed the P/S pumps in 1998, on all engine models, but could be wrong
1983 to 1992 is Generation 1 of Ford Rangers
1993 to 1997 is Gen 2
1998 to 2012 is Gen 3
Gen 2 and 3 share many parts, but not all

Rock Auto list the same pump for both years.
1996 FORD RANGER 2.3L L4 Power Steering Pump | RockAuto
1999 FORD RANGER 2.5L L4 Power Steering Pump | RockAuto
Although the Motor Craft brand has different part numbers.
Most of the after market ones are the same, but others are different _ part number wise anyways.

That's what I also saw on a bunch of different compatibly sites. Just wanted the last approval from here but since its in my garage already I will remove it and compare them side by side.

well since the only thing that is visually wrong with the 1999 is that the pulley is broken. I assume it was previous owner trying to remove it without the pulley puller and broke it since it is required to remove the pump. I will remove the pulley of the 1996 and just switch the pulleys. those pulleys are the same according to rockauto site. but ill still compare the pumps just incase
The pulleys themselves are pretty fragile, mine appears to be made out of Bakelite, so any pulling force on the edge of pulley, it would just shatter.

Tried it out. the old pump on my 1999 had a bent shaft so I removed it and compared to the 1996 one it is different in design (connection where the lower hose and maybe also internal) but still bolts on I messed the 96 pump up by putting the pulley backwards. Went and removed a pump from a 1996-97 Ford explorer which is suppose to be compatible. will install and let you guys know.
