Okay need some info about doing SAS please reply

Okay i'm trying to see if it'll be cheaper to SAS my truck or just buy a 4x4. Yes I know I will need a different tranny and tcase. So if you could give me any and all infomation about cost so I can gudge to see which would be cheaper in the long run. I love my truck and i've got 2+ years into it already and I dont know if I want to get rid of it for another truck. I've had absolutely no problems with it and I love it. So this is why I need your help figuring all this out. By the time this happens I should be able to do everything myself with help from friends. So if you could list out everything i'll need and rough cost estimates. Thanks for the help!

Either way i'd be looking into doing the SAS so the only difference right now is tranny and tcase. Right now i'm thinking it'll be cheaper to do it to my current truck. Otherwise i'd end up putting myself further in debt more then likely trading in. I'd still be behind my trade in value and maybe a little of on price selling it myself. So I still think it would be cheaper in the long run doing it to my truck, but that's why i'm asking to get input on it.

well your question is so generic, there are so many different ways to go about the SAS. and i have only seen you driving in mud/water/streets.

Yea, I'd just go ahead & get a 4x4 & see how you like that.

Save yourself the pain and time. Buy an 97 ranger with TBB and put a locker in it. Front e-z loc or the likes. When that is not enough, SAS that and lock the rear. Your truck is just to pretty to be tearing apart. Like was said earlier when you are going out and playing at least onces a weekend and your truck is not enough than think about SAS.

Think also about the downtime it will take for your truck. You will have to buy or borrow a vehicle for all the time it takes you to do the swap on your truck.

He also DID ask for our advice. SonicFX4 is just giving another idea he may not have thought of. No need to knock him for it. In the end it IS his choice, but he's asking for ideas, advice, criticism, and the rest of it. I think all ideas and opinions are valid here.

I already have a second vehicle to drive when the truck is down so that's not an issue.

Do it. Run coils not leafs. PM me if you have any specific questions.

I put about 5 grand into my swap. But my 44 has ctms, yukon chormoly shafts, 5.13's, full spool, warn premiums, BTF cover, PMP knuckles, BTF high steer arms, full high steer with 3/4-5/8 heims, toyota steering box, PSC hydraulic assist ram, custom alcan leafs, the explorer 8.8 has a detroit, superior chromo shafts with 6-lug flange to match the front, chevy leafs with a pivoting shackle mount, and trail-ready beadlocks with 38" TSL's.

I beat the **** out of mine on the rocks on a regular basis.

You could cut that cost in half if you don't want the extra strength, and don't touch the rear axle.

5k with you doing most of the work correct? Well worth it for you and all the wheeling you do no doubt. And I would love to see a SAS coils under my truck too. But that would lead to more wheeling and harder trails, bigger tires, worst gas mileage, and before you know it the Pretty Sonic Blue panit is toast and the chance of rolling is high. So instead of beating up my 03 i'll beat up a 97 which has flex to begin with and with a ~$250 front locker can tear it up. From there bulid it up. And a quick search on autotrader a 95-97 ranger cost $3600 and up.

Just my opinon. And like gearhead said you have to make the choice.

Yup, I def. passed the 1300 mark. I'm now at exactly 2600. That's not including wheels/tires & the front axle built.
