Hey guys... Im and F150 owner and had plenty of Ford trucks over the years, but never a Ranger... I've heard nothing but good things about them especially with the 4.0L...

I want to get every ones opinion on whether this truck is a good deal at this price ($3,000). Trade value is about 2,500 and Clean Retail is about 4,500... Almost seems too good

First let me start by saying the pictures don't work, also almost everyone has that interior, it's a ranger thing. They are very reliable trucks, I got mine up to 240,000 miles, it still runs, but I totaled it Monday. They are very safe from my experience and the mileage is very impressive. If it's a regular cab you don't have much space, but the extended gives you an extra two or three feet of storage space (I wouldn't use the jumper seats for passengers, I hear they're very uncomfortable) the six foot style side bed gives you plenty of cargo space to get the job done, and it has enough torque to haul around your boat or something. Also they are very safe from my experience (I'll show pictures). So I would pay 3000 for another one of these in a heartbeat, especially a v6.

 

My 1994 is getting close to 400k, holding up well.
I have the manual trans 4x4

Rear leaf spring hangers rust out, but common on any pickup.

4.0l can not be over heated or head will crack, pull over and let it cool down, never try to "make it home".

Outside of clutches, brakes and the hangers I haven't spent much on it.

I do spark plugs every couple of years, 4.0l OHV needs Motorcraft or Autolite, other brands won't last.
Finally changed the spark plugs wires after 18 years did idle better, lol.


The 4x4 auto hubs need to be kept clean inside, you grease the bearings but just put ATF or light oil on the auto hub parts, no grease.

The Ford electric shift motor often shows its age if you don't shift transfer case one a month, 4WD, 4WD low and back to 2WD, don't need to really drive it 4WD just shifting cause motors brushes to stay clean and loose.

What it is worth depends on where you are?

Where I live $3,000 would be just OK with under 150k miles, it is still a 22 year old pickup truck and not a classic by any measure, lol.

 

My Truck: 1991 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3l 4-Banger

I've had my Ranger about a year now and have had some issues, mainly due to the fact that the previous owner didn't take care of it. However, over all it's a great truck. It's never even thought about leaving me stranded or anything like that. Also, it's built Ford Tough of course, lol. Not to mention, because of the year it's very simple (and very cheap) to work on. You can pretty much work on anything with a socket set and some ratchets. So it's a great learning truck to start your kiddo out learning to care for it and learn basic maintenance. Last but NOT least, it's an older model, meaning it's for the most part solid steal. So if anything were to happen god forbid, you can feel comfortable knowing your kid is safe with a lot of steal between him and everything else. Not like these plastic hunks of junk they make now.
