Wiring harnesses
Wiring harnesses
Hello all! I will be attempting a cab swap on my 96 ranger here soon and am trying to iron out all of the issues I may run into before doing so. I will be swapping a 91 standard cab onto a 96 extended cab frame. Both have 2.3l and are xlts. My main question concerns the wiring harness. Is there a difference between those two years wiring harness wise? The 91 cab comes with all of the electrical wiring for the interior but not for the engine. Could I just plug in the engine harness from the 96, swap the ecu, and remain problem free?
Major difference,
the 91 only has 60 wires to the ecu,
the 96 has 104 wires to the ecu
The 91 is odb 1
the 96 is odb 2
It will be a wiring nightmare, you will need the wiring diagrams for both trucks

Ok, thank you for the manuals! I don't have the best understanding of wiring harnesses or anything electrical, so. If I were to separate the obd1 from the harness, and swap in the obd2 (assuming the obd2 ecu doesn't control anything internally like lights or anything redundant), would that work? Then it would just be plug and play for the engine harness, plug it in through the firewall and run it, right?
Edit: The correct year for the vehicle is 93, not 91.
