I have a 2001 Ranger 4.0 4x4. Last week it shut off on me going to work and wouldn't start back up cause battery was dead. Got a jump start and got about 2 miles before it did it again. Around the same time all gauges stopped working. Tested battery and alternater, both good. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

 

You %100 sure it wasn’t the alternator? Same thing happened to me once except I was on the freeway, all my dash lights started getting dim, headlights went off, once I came to a stop, the car died, and wouldn’t start back up. Replaced the alternator and it was fixed.

Can’t really think of what else it could be unless multiple fuses went out at once or some type of catastrophic electrical issue occurred.

 

I took my battery and alternater by the parts store and they said they were good. Maybe I need to get a 2nd opinion? Can't find any bad fuses...

 

It might be worth getting a 2nd opinion or trying to get the alternator rebuilt locally if you're on a budget. Did you pressure wash the engine bay or anything recently? My alternator gave out the day after I pressure washed mine.
