06 Ranger XL Cargo Light Wiring Setup

Hello everyone,

I have a 2006 XL model. This one didn't come with the cargo light wiring for the third brake light.

I bought a third brake light/cargo light combo on amazon.

Now I know to get power to the cargo lights I just need to tap into the map light and then onto the cargo light wire on the third brake light housing.

My question is, what size wire do I need? I was thinking of tapping into the power wire for the map light then running a wire to the other wire needed to the cargo lights and then tapping into that wire there.

I haven't been able to find what size wire to buy.

Thank you.

Look in the manual and check the fuse size feeding that circuit. From that, you'll be able to figure out the wire size.

If nothing else, just use 14guage. That will cover everything up to a 15a fuse. There's no rule prohibiting over-sizing a wire.
