1992 4x4 light stays on

My 1992 ford ranger with manual transmission, and manual transfer case has a problem where the 4x4 indicator light stays on at all times. Just trying to see if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it. The light worked properly after i bought the truck but now stays on at all times. I readjusted the 4x4 shift lever to make sure it was adjusted correctly. The 4x4 works perfectly when it is engaged just i am getting tired of the light being on at all times. The low range light sometimes comes on when 4low is engaged.

Welcome to the forum

The 4WD lights get 12volts with key on

There is a switch on the transfer case with 2 wires(drivers side), one ground wire for 4high and one ground wire for 4low
If the switch breaks or one of the wires gets a bare spot it can short to ground, doesn't blow a fuse or hurt anything, just the light comes on

Commonly called a 4x4 indicator light switch

You have a BW1354m transfer case, but these switches only come in a few styles

Locate the switch and unplug the 2 wire connector
Leave it unplugged, and drive for a few days, if no lights then problem is the switch itself
If lights do come on then wiring is shorting

No sensor, just a switch
I think the 2 wires were NCA(no color assigned) but not sure on that

Thanks for the help just got it fixed. Unplugged the sensor and the light stayed on. Then I followed the wire up and it has a connector below the brake master cylinder, unplugged that connector and the light went away. Just spliced in new wires and heat shrinked them and now the dash lights work great. If anyone needs it the wire colors on my truck were solid blue and blue with a black line.
