1995 Ford Ranger Instrument Cluster Voltages
I have a 1995 XLT Ford Ranger 3.0 auto. My temp gauge was not working. Now my odometer has also stopped working. I have removed the instrument cluster. But I need to voltages to test the various components. Does any one know the voltages or are they all 12v? Thanks,

Yes, all 12v

1995 and up Odometers often failed because worm gear failed, common issue, sometimes the drive motor itself fails, less common

Temp gauge is not a common failure.
The temp SENDER on the engine was not common failure but they do fail.
If you remove the wire(s) on the SENDER, and then GROUND it(them) the gauge should go to HOT, if key is on.
There are TWO similar looking temp devices on the engine
ECT Sensor, for computer only
ECT SENDER, for dash gauge only, it has the Red/white stripe wire, ground this wire to test gauge, if gauge goes to HOT replace SENDER
Auto parts stores will ALWAYS bring you an ECT sensor first time around, and it won't work, so make sure you get a SENDER

Hi, Thanks. Pulled the cluster and......Yep the worm gear is toast. Funny how they range in price from a few dollars to $50 or $60. I bought an American made one for $11. The temp gauge does react to current and the sender has juice. Going to go over the connections on the cluster to see if any traces are bad. I already replaced both the sensor and the sender and the thermostat. Might just hook up an after market gauge. Thanks for all your help!
