1996 Ranger - where do water leaks come from
1996 Ranger - where do water leaks come from
I thought I had fixed the wet floor in my 1996 by replacing the high-mount tail light and gasket, but there's a wet floor after 3 days of solid rain, some heavy.
The passenger footwell was more wet than the drivers, but the drivers side was wet along the out edge of the seat and the bottom of the seatbelt too.
So where are the other common leak areas for these trucks? Thanks!

Yes, 3rd brake light is most common
Door drains can plug up, but you would notice water sloshing around when you open and closed the door
Windshield has a trough around it, the windshield itself sits on a raised ridge that had sealant/glue put on it and then the glass was installed
But the trough around the ridge will get water in it, not to uncommon for the lower corners to have water sitting in them most of the year, and if paint is weak then RUST
If a corner rusts thru then water can come down into the cab, runs down behind kick panel on either side
You can pull out/off the trim and have a look
The trim is NOT a seal, not suppose to be
It's decoration
DO NOT USE METAL TOOLS around the edge of tempered glass!!!!!!
Edge is very very weak and windshield can/will crack/shatter if the edge its hit
If you have AC, it's on all the time, just FYI
It dries the air in the cab
Normally it collects water from the air in a drip pan, and the water exits via a tube in the firewall, see that in the summer easily, water dripping from behind passenger side tire
If the hose gets clogged then water overflow and goes into passenger side footwell
Rain would NOT matter for this, only drive time

Thinking you're right, Ron, about the windshield. Found that on some other Ranger forums. Seems most common after the high-mount brake light on the cab. Leak is much smaller since I replaced the light.
In the meantime, I bought a cover for $50 and will use that to keep the inside dry. Nothing like a wet moldy truck to keep you from enjoying the thing (except maybe a mouse nest in the AC vents. LOL!)
