1997 Regular Cab - Rear window glass replacement question

I've been doing a little research to replace one of the rear window panels (not sliding window) on my 1997 Regular Cab Ranger. I found a great thread in the how-to section: https://www.ranger-forums.com/interi...98-12-a-90474/ . I read that this procedure would also work on a 1997. I wanted to confirm this and came across this thread: https://www.ranger-forums.com/exteri...window-149909/ . The author of the how-to thread made a comment saying that the procedure works for 85-11 Extended and 98-11 Regular Cab. Unfortunately, this procedure won't work for me. I read that the 1997 Regular Cab has a "roped" in gasket. I tried googling what that meant but I can't seem to find the answer.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction for a how-to for replacing my 1997 Ford Ranger Regular Cab rear window or explain to me what a "roped" in gasket meant. Thank you!

This is a "rope'd" in window. Installing it uses a piece of rope to roll the seal over the lip in the cab opening.

Thank you. It doesn't seem too difficult.

I was trying to find out the dimensions of the left panel to see if I could get a piece of plexiglass cut to the same size. Is it true that I can't replace the left or right panel without having to replace the WHOLE back window piece - gasket, left and right panel, and both sliders?

Call a local auto glass company and ask. It may be more affordable than you think.

I called a few places and it seems I need to replace the whole back gasket/windows because mine is a 4 piece.

Is it really impossible to fit a section into the old gasket? How was it placed in there to begin with?

Entire rear windows are pretty affordable at most junk yards. Just call every yard in your area and get pricing on a complete unit until you get the best price. In the end, it's probably the easiest route, but that's up to you.
