2000 Ranger - Front Diff. Seal Leak Help
2000 Ranger - Front Diff. Seal Leak Help
Hey Everyone - Hoping to get assistance since I'm no mechanic, nor do I play one on TV.
Pre-req info:
2000 Ranger XLT
4x4 - Automatic
V6 3.0 Flex Fuel
4 door - Extended Cab
Currently having a lot of issues with this truck right now, just trying to tackle them one by one, but need some answers from experts now.
1) I just changed the Universal Joints on the rear drive shaft, wasn't that difficult, but wish I would have researched info on hear first. I didn't mark the driveshaft location prior to removing and re-installing. I read somewhere that this is a balanced unit. Will it be obvious that I have it installed incorrectly? Is it now trial and error to get it correct?
2) I have a Front Differential Seal leak, its pretty bad. Its where the front shaft out of the transfer case connects in to the differential. (excuse the non-technical names). On my uploaded picture, its leaking where the RED Arrow points. What is this seal called? Can anyone give me a part number? How difficult is this to replace? Again, not being a mechanic, I don't know where to look really.
3) Since I need to replace this seal, there is another U-Joint right there also (Blue Arrow), is this one as difficult/easy as the rear shaft ones? I assume its a different part number?
Again, thanks for any information you all can provide. I look forward to spending time on here and getting things fixed !

The drive shafts are technically balance on their own so shouldn't matter how you reinstall them, but...............
It is just a good practice to mark them before removal, assuming you didn't have a vibration prior.
Ford does not do "on-car" driveshaft balancing, too expensive, so you should be fine.
The leak is from the Pinion Seal, not technically challenging to replace but can be hard to get the nut off

You have a Dana 35 SLA front axle on a 2000 Ranger
