2002 Ranger; A/C & Heat Blows Air Thru Defrost Vents Only

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L that, all of a sudden, has a problem with the HVAC system that blows air only thru the defrost vents even when selecting any other vent levels (defrost, face/middle or floor levels).

I did find a thread on another forum regarding this problem, only it was for the 95-01 Ranger model years, yet they say that the 2002 Ranger is not the same as those earlier models.

All help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

Vacuum loss to the AC control servos. Check for cracks in the spherical vac reservoir under the air filter housing and check the vacuum lines going to and from it for melt or disconnect.

Great call, thanks for your help. That's exactly what happened here. The supply line to the vacuum reservoir was cut in two with some minor shredding.

Would you happen to know where I could find these PVC vacuum lines? I did a little searching online, but I could not find any place that carries them. I've done a little searching for them online with no luck. These pvc lines should be common replacement items.

Thanks again for your help.

Well, I looked under the hood to check if I could see anything obvious, as I looked under the air filter compartment, I located the vacuum reservoir and saw a PVC line that was cut or broken. It looked like heat was what caused it to break because of the shredding that occurred to one end of the broken line.

Thanks for your advice.

Junkyard or dealer. You might also be able to cut out the damaged section and splice in some rubber vacuum hose.

UPDATE: I found the same kind of hard-plastic line and connector tips at AutoZone for under $10. Worked like a charm. The ventilation system now blows air thru any vent level selected.

Thanks again for all of your help.
