2002 Ranger ABS problem - C1095, C1234, C1233

I bought a Ranger in an auto auction. Ever since I got it the ABS light has come on. When the start the engine, it's fine, but when I start driving over 10 mph the light comes on and stays on. I scanned the ECU and got the following OBD2 codes -

C1095 hydraulic pump circuit malfunction
C1233 L wheel speed sensor input signal
C1234 R wheel speed sensor input signal.

I cleaned both sensors where they sit in the wheel hub. Both were caked in metal filings. I thought this would fix it, but the light just came back on afterwards. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here please? Does anyone know of a good video that shows how to test the APB pump and module?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum

Did the wheel sensor codes go away after the cleaning?

Have you unplugged the wheel sensor connectors to inspect the connections?

And the same with the ABS connector in the engine bay, unplug it and inspect connections

All the codes are "circuit" codes so look at the wiring first

Sensor issues will have "out of range" codes, yours are no input signal

Same for hydraulic pump, its saying the "circuit" issue, not that pump is not responding

I could be the ABS module is bad, but check the wiring first for corroded connections

Ron - thanks very much for taking the time to reply to my message! It took me a while finish checking everything... basically the sensor codes didn’t change following cleaning - it had no effect.

I unplugged the sensors in the wheel arch and at the module. The terminals all looked pristine.

My plan now is to go to a junkyard and get a module. I’m planning to swap just the module electrics first (I believe this is possible on the Ranger) and avoid undoing the hydraulics. Does that sound reasonable to you?
