2005 Duratec Clutch Replacement, How hard?
2005 Duratec Clutch Replacement, How hard?
Hello All,
I have a clutch slave cylinder that seems to not be working as well as it should be. It is often hard to get into first gear. All the other shifts once it is moving are fine. The way I drive I cannot imagine wearing out a clutch in 100k miles. I have never wore out a clutch before and drive very mildly. I was trained how to drive a clutch by my father who drove a bus in NYC. I wish that these slave cylinders were external as it would make my life a lot easier and then I would know how are I can drive on an original clutch.
I would like to try to do it myself. Over the past year or so I and my mechanic neighbor friend has replaced a clutch on a wrangler and it was not too bad other then getting the transmission to connect to the engine.
If the bolts are easy enough to get to I would like to give this a go as I will also change out the cooling hose and possible they egr since we are there.
If it is a bear of a job I can send it to my neighbors shop and he can do it on the lift but then where is the fun and frustration in that.
I just wonder if the 2005 is any different than the other ones as I have read that it may be a change year in how the bolts are accessible.
Thanks all,
BOB

I am getting ready to buy the parts. My only real concern is how hard it is to get to the 2 top bolts.
When I have it apart I will replace the coolant hose and rear engine seal and replace the flywheel.
Thanks,
Bob

You need long extensions and short socket with wobble attached
You can pull trans mount to lower rear of trans a bit to make top bolts more accessible
I have never done clutch or trans removal on 2.3l duratec, just speaking from experience with other Ranger engines
This type of wrench is another option: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_SX679_.jpg
If you have clearance to move it a at least 45 degrees at a time from above
