2008 Dome light / Door ajar light doesn't work or dash wheel light.

new owner to 2008 Ranger XL 4x4 4.0. The dome light does not come on for driver or passenger door. The door ajar light on the dash never aluminates if I open door while running. The horn works with the key off. I used WD-40 on the door ajar button/bracket. If I turn the wheel for dash illumination/dome light, the dome light still doesn't turn on but I do hear a relay sound like it's triggering something near the fuse panel that wants to turn the lights on. The dash lights do come on with the lights on. I checked fuse number 6 and 16 and they are fine. My though is the bulb is bad AND the door ajar switches are bad or the previous owners did something so it doesn't work. I also notice that there is not any chime if I leave the key in the ignition in any position. I would assume it would warn you if you leave the keys in the ignition in the off position. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum

Yes, dome light bulb is probably burned out, replace it
In 2008 Ranger Dome light has 1 relay that powers the Dome light with the door open switch and the dimmer switch, both ground the relay to activate the light, light is powered by fuse 13
Fuses 6 and 16 are not for dome light or door ajar, 6 is for door locks, 16 is for accesories

Do you have a 2 door or 4 door Ranger?
Yes, if previous owner had an issue with one of the door switches he could have disabled both or all 4 depending on what you have
The "key in ignition" chime only uses the drivers door switch

You could pull off the drivers door panel and then look/feel if the door switch has been unplugged
Its at the bottom of the door's striker latch, 2 wire plug, it sends a GROUND signal when door is OPEN, no ground when door is closed, so unplugging it shows door closed all the time, so no door ajar light or chime

The "key in ignition" chime has a 1 wire connection at the key cylinder, the key grounds that wire when its in, so if key switch is grounded AND drivers door switch is grounded, then chime will activate

Found this diagram, has the door switch's wiring so you could test those at the SJB(smart junction box) for ground with door closed and open

Thanks for the info Ron. Been away for a few days. I'll replace the bulb and continue with other suggestions if needed.
