Icon9 2008 Ranger Remove Cabin Temperature Control Motor

2008 XLT 4.0 automatic. I may be naming some things wrong here and welcome correction. The cabin temperature control dial (the one in the middle of the heater controls that's blue on one side and red on the other) doesn't work. Max Air gives cold air. Every other position gives hot regardless of where the dial is set. I've been advised that the problem is the motor on top of the cabin air plenum which moves a baffle inside the plenum to adjust the mix of cold and warm air. When I drop the glove box, the motor is clearly visible. It has 4 screws holding it in place. The two toward the cabin are easy. I can't get my hand in to put a wrench on the two toward the firewall. Two things: What's the secret to remove this motor? And is there something else I should look at first?

Welcome to the forum

The electric motor is called the Blend Door actuator, and it is a common failure on 1995 and up Rangers and other Ford Models

Yes, a pain to get to the back two screws, but I think there is only one

Have a look at the 4th post in this thread: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...tuator-157327/

Thanks! I’ll give it a try this weekend. I have a small socket set. I was able to get it in but not turn it. Screwdriver is a great idea.
