3 or 4 button Key Fob

Hey guys, long time first post. (Odd, tho, I coulda swore I posted before, when I picked up my truck..)

Quick question - need to replace a remote fob, and also need a backup key, so was looking around and saw keys with the built-in remote that has 4 buttons. ("Lock", "Unlock", "Panic", and "Go!"). My remote only has three (I'm missing the "Go!" button..)

Are the remotes compatible? (I mean, obviously, other than the "Go!" button not working.) Would the other tree buttons still work if I got one of the key/built in remotes?

Thanks in advance!

(And, for the record - just over a year's passed since I got my '10. Put 32k miles on it the first year. I'm actually disappointed, as I was expecting to hit 36k, but I'll make up for it this year.)

Okay, uhm.. I thought everyone called them 'fob'. They're the thing you press to remotely lock or unlock your door? If you have a remote engine start, it'll do that, as well. :)

My Ranger came with a 3-button: Lock, Unlock, Panic.
I see some for sale with 4-buttons: Lock, Unlock, Panic, Engine Start.

So, again - do the 4 buttons work with system that were originally shipped with the 3 button? (Aside from the fact the 4th button won't do anything, I'm meaning the three common buttons.)

yea its called a fob your wording in the first post confused me...are you sure that 4th button isnt a trunk release for the cars? fords dont come with a factory installed remote start...its a dealer installed option...just get a 3 button

Ah, okay - I'm asking because I'm used to my Mini, where the 'fob' was part of the key itself. (i.e - Not a separate piece!)

There's a couple 3rd-party key manufacturers for Ford/Mercury, but their keys all have 4 buttons, so hence my question. (And odd phrasing..) I sent one of them an email, haven't heard back yet tho. Figured that if it could work, someone here would know. :)

I have 3 4 button remotes that programed and just work. The 4th button (trunk) doesn't work.

Good to know. I'll give it a shot then.

Thanks -
Mike.
