86 ranger starting problems

86 ranger starting problems
I have an 1986 ranger 2.9l.
The problem is it won't start, have spark and fuel at the rail.
If i let the truck sit for a while and give it a shot of starting fluid it will run for about 20 to 30 secouds or so and die and when i try again it won't work. I shop told my friend that it was getting to much fuel. It that possible and what would cause it. Also the fuel pump relay makes alot of clicking when i turn the key on.
