'93 4.0L What else does it fit?
'93 4.0L What else does it fit?
I have a bent '93 Ranger 4x4 5 speed with a good motor and drive train.
I am on a budget and do an engine swap OK.
If I were to get a good 4x4 frame/body with a blown motor or trans, what range of years will the motor/trans fit?
I live in WA, there are no smog issues.
I know my '93 motor will fit OK through '95, will it fit newer body?
Thanks, Mark.

Welcome to the forum
You have a 4.0l OHV engine
1990 to 2000 Rangers(or Mazda B4000'S) used the 4.0l OHV engine
4x4 or 2WD doesn't matter
Automatic or manual trans only matters to the computer in the newer truck, you have to stick with what it has, if manual you can swap in your manual trans if you want
If 1995 to 2000 you will need to swap upper and lower intake from newer truck to your older engine, to match engine wiring on newer truck and changes to fuel system.
You will also need the Cam Position sensor(CPS) and sychro tower swapped over from newer truck, as most '93s did have that, but easy to do.
Basically look at it as a Long Block swap, you use your '93 4.0l Block and Heads and bolt all the other stuff from the newer trucks 4.0l to it
2001 Rangers got the 4.0l SOHC engine so computer and wiring won't work.

Fantastic, RonD:
Exactly the information I was looking for, I was limiting my search to only '93-'95.
I can swap the intake and other things easily enough.
You allow me to expand my search thru 2000 vehicles too.
Thanks,
Mark.

EDIT: sorry not info you needed, lol, you wanted ranger years not engine years, you HAVE the engine you need the Truck to put it in
Explorers and Mazda Navajos, along with Aerostar Vans also used the same 4.0l OHV.
But in 1997 Explores got option of 4.0l SOHC engines, so 1997-2000 Explorer could have either.
VIN's 8th digit tells what it is
VIN X is 4.0l OHV
VIN E is 4.0l SOHC
That applies to any of the vehicles not just explorers
If you look at your VIN it will have the X as the 8th digit
