96 ranger engine shuts off for a like half a second while driving
Hey, so 1996 ranger, the problem just started yesterday. Im driving and beeing in 4th gear. I left off the throttle then back on, then the motor just died for a split second then came back alive. It did that twice on the way home. Today i went and got lunch and when i left a stop sign, i gunned it and the truck immediately did the same thing. It died only for a split second then came back alive, and ran fine until i got back to work. No check engine light, no codes. Any idea? Thankyou in advance for any help
See if its gas pedal position related, i.e. the TPS(throttle position sensor)
Drive at a steady speed so gas pedal is in same position then increase or decrease pedal position to see if it has "dead spot", this is not RPM related or speed related, you are looking for gas pedal position related
TPS is like a volume control, or light dimmer, ****, a variable resistor, so it can get a "dead spot"
But very easy to test for that
You could also use a volt or ohm meter to test that
Clean MAF sensor, always, anytime there is a running issue, should be cleaned once a year if you have the time, not hard to do
