99 Ranger 4 ways and turn signals

Hi I'm new here, I just bought a 1999 Ford Ranger and it needs a lot of work LOL.
One thing I'm having problems with is the hazard lights and turn signals are not working. Fuses are fine. One thing I noticed is that when you first put the key in and turn it on and then try the turn signal, there is a clicking sound one time and it only happens again after you shut the ignition off and turn it back on. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum

I am sure you know that turn signals do not flash if a bulb is burned out, have you walked around the truck to see if bulbs are on?

Does the dash turn bulb come on?

No the arrows inside do not come on or flash, and the bulbs are all in working order. Thanks for the response.

If the fuses, bulbs, and all that are fine, then that leaves two obvious parts that could be the problem. Either the multifunction switch itself has crapped out, or the turn signal relay itself is bad.
Since multifunction switches are fairly expensive, toss a couple bucks at the relay instead and see if the problem goes away. Bonus points if you have another Ford around to swap turn signal relays between. If the problem moves to the donor vehicle then you know it's the flasher relay.

The flasher relay is on it's own harness under the dash. Mine is yellow, square shaped, on the driver's side. It should be hanging around somewhere near the obdii diagnostic port. Mine took quite a bit of pulling to get it free, but yours may be easier. You also may have a few clips to deal with holding the relay into the socket.

TheArcticWolf1911, thanks for the reply. I've looked for the flasher relay with no luck. I'll look again tomorrow sometime.

Thanks I found the relay and replaced it. They work now. :)

Glad that worked for you. The alternatives would be much more costly, lol
